Fall of Plaster

8 January 2015

Recently we had a fall of plaster from the church ceiling above the pews near the front of the nave. Following the PCC Standing Committee on Monday we have been in touch with our Archdeacon, the Secretary of the Diocesan Advisory Committee (the body which deals with the care of church buildings) and our church insurers, Ecclesiastical Insurance Group, to discuss the situation. Our insurers advised, understandably, that the PCC must undertake a risk assessment and then take appropriate measures in response to the assessment.

The Standing Committee met again this afternoon to carry out a risk assessment. We determined that the Risk Rating for the nave and north aisle areas of the church is such that we should not use these areas of the church until such time as a professional person has carried out a high level close inspection of the ceiling plaster in situ; this will be arranged with our architect as soon as possible. We determined that we can continue to use the chancel and south aisle areas of the church.

The purpose of this email is to let you know what has happened and to inform you that the 10am service on Sundays will take place in the chancel at the east end of the church until further notice.

Please pass on this information to friends and neighbours who are not on email so the news is as widely circulated as possible.

If you have any questions about this please do contact me.
