Church ceiling – plaster fall – an update. The report on the inspection of the ceiling by Building Conservation Solutions Ltd has been received. The inspecting team removed all unstable plaster and has recommended the erection of debris netting in the nave and chancel within 4 months as an interim measure before a full re-plastering of the church can be carried out in the future. We are now able to resume use of the nave and north aisles. Please contact Robin if you have any questions about this.

Church ceiling – plaster fall – an update. The PCC approved the quote from Building Conservation Solutions Ltd for the tactile inspection of the church ceiling. This will begin on Monday 9th February and is expected to take 3-4 days. The PCC will then consider the inspection report with any recommendations for the erection of debris netting. A longer term and permanent solution will also be necessary. The Sunday 10am service will continue to take place in the chancel until further notice. Please contact Robin if you have any questions about this.

Church ceiling – plaster fall – an update. A further meeting took place last Tuesday with our architect and an adviser from a building conservation firm to discuss the option for a tactile inspection of the ceiling to ascertain its condition with subsequent possible erection of debris netting as necessary. Proposals, including costs, for these measures are now being prepared for consideration by the PCC. A longer term and permanent solution will also be necessary. The Sunday 10am service will continue to take place in the chancel until further notice. Please contact Robin if you have any questions about this. Church ceiling – plaster fall – an update. Following a meeting in the church last Wednesday with an architect and an adviser from a Conservation & Restoration company, we are now actively exploring the option to erect debris netting in the nave and side aisle as an interim measure to enable us to resume use of the whole church building. A longer term and permanent solution is also under consideration. The Sunday 10am service will continue to take place in the chancel until further notice. Please contact Robin if you have any questions about this.
Fall of Plaster

Recently we had a fall of plaster from the church ceiling above the pews near the front of the nave. Following the PCC Standing Committee on Monday we have been in touch with our Archdeacon, the Secretary of the Diocesan Advisory Committee (the body which deals with the care of church buildings) and our church insurers, Ecclesiastical Insurance Group, to discuss the situation. Our insurers advised, understandably, that the PCC must undertake a risk assessment and then take appropriate measures in response to the assessment.
The Standing Committee met again this afternoon to carry out a risk assessment. We determined that the Risk Rating for the nave and north aisle areas of the church is such that we should not use these areas of the church until such time as a professional person has carried out a high level close inspection of the ceiling plaster in situ; this will be arranged with our architect as soon as possible. We determined that we can continue to use the chancel and south aisle areas of the church.
The purpose of this email is to let you know what has happened and to inform you that the 10am service on Sundays will take place in the chancel at the east end of the church until further notice.
Please pass on this information to friends and neighbours who are not on email so the news is as widely circulated as possible.
If you have any questions about this please do contact me.
