Interim Priest in Charge of St Andrew’s Kildwick and Interim Priest in Charge of St John’s Cononley with St Mary’s Bradley
/0 Comments/in News, Other Things/by Peter FordThe announcement of the Revd Julie Bacon as Interim Priest in Charge of St Andrew’s Kildwick and Interim Priest in Charge of St John’s Cononley with St Mary’s Bradley.
Andy Jolley, the Archdeacon of Bradford, is delighted that this announcement can now be made. He says “It was a privilege to be part of the meeting that Julie had with the representatives of the three churches last week. Julie is an exceptional priest with fantastic experience before and after her ordination which will be a great asset as she takes up this new interim role working in these two parishes and with these three churches. The interim role is for a period of three years and, in addition to covering familiar parish priest duties, will involve taking on the challenges identified in the profiles produced by the two parishes and myself. The main aim is to establish a new shared vision and put in place structures and relationships which will support the future flourishing of the church in these two parishes.”
Julie says,
“I am really excited to have been appointed to serve these two parishes as they prepare to enter into a new relationship with each other, and to seek God’s vision for the future in Kildwick, Cononley and Bradley. I’m looking forward to getting to know people in all three churches and villages, and finding out what God has in store for us over the next three years. I moved to Ilkley in 2000 with my husband, Matt, and children, Jack and Kate, and then to Shipley in 2014 when I became curate at St Peter’s Shipley, and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to explore and get to know the most northerly part of the Bradford Episcopal Area.”
An Interim Minister? – a note from the Archdeacon of Bradford
/0 Comments/in News, Other Things/by Peter FordOver the past few years, the Church of England has been starting to make greater use of the new provision to appoint Interim Ministers to parishes. These are fixed term appointments for a maximum of three years (although they can be renewed once to make a maximum of six years). Interim posts are primarily about helping parishes to […]
Church Clock: Thanks And Update
/0 Comments/in News, Other Things, The fabric/by Peter FordA short note to express our thanks for the very kind donations we have received towards the cost of the clock repairs, and also to update everyone about where we are with the repairs, and when we can expect them to take place.
When the clock had its annual inspection in May serious defects were found. Parts of the clock barrel were loose, and the thread of the screws holding it were stripped, and therefore ineffective. Because this part is integral to the winding system, this could fail and damage the clock, and, more seriously, the person winding the clock. So the engineer made it safe by letting the weights run down and, clearly, left instructions that it remain so until such time as repairs had been undertaken. The total cost of the repairs will be £894.00.
Once this became known, many individuals, the Kildwick Parish Meeting and the Farnhill Parish Council have all kindly made donations towards the cost. We are delighted that the sum raised through these gifts amounts to £795.00. We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to you all and are immensely grateful for your generosity.
St. Andrew’s clock is broken
/0 Comments/in News, The fabric/by Peter FordThose of you who live near the church building will have noticed that our ancient (1709) clock is not chiming at the moment. This is because, at the annual service, the engineer identified a damaged click pawl and barrel assembly which requires removal of the barrel assembly and repair at the company’s workshops. As you can imagine this will not be cheap. The PCC are looking for ways to pay for the repair so keep a look out for the opportunities we’ll be giving you to help repair this important and much appreciated part of community life :)

/0 Comments/in News, Other Things/by Peter FordI would like to invite you to come along on Wednesday 8th July to the Parish Rooms to find out about an exciting new course that we are introducing in the parish. Pilgrim is a course for those who would like to find out more about the Christian faith; it explores the message of the Christian faith in a way that is reflective and conversational.
On Wednesday 8th July at 2.00pm and at 7.30pm we will tell you about the course and give you a taster of some of the course material. It will be a relaxing and informal hour with lots of time for questions about the course. We will then begin to use the course in September.
Please let me know if you are able to come to one of the meetings; this will help us with the practical arrangements.
I do hope you will want to find out more and will join us on 8th July. If you are not able to join us on 8th July but are interested in joining one of the groups following the course in September please let me know.
If you have any questions about the Pilgrim course or the meetings themselves please do contact me. There is a Pilgrim course website which you can find here.
Peace and blessings,
Robin
