The Suffering Church: the injustice of persecution. TODAY we are thinking about the Suffering Church through the lens of Christians in Muslim majority counties. We warmly welcome visitors from St Paul’s Church, Manningham.

CMS/Jigsaw Kids Ministries Fundraising Coffee Morning. Thank you to everyone who supported this event which raised £914.25. An excellent result; well done.

Mothering Sunday, NEXT Sunday 6th March. Tell your family and friends about our special Family Communion service at 10am – with flowers for all and simnel cake.

Messy Church, 2.30pm Sunday 20th March. The next Messy Church will take place on Palm Sunday. For more information or to offer to help contact Lesley Hudson, 523291.

Lent Collection. This year our special collection during Lent will be in support of Water Aid. Please take a collecting box.

Stations of the Cross during Lent. During Lent there will be a service of Stations of the Cross each Friday at 12.30pm. The service lasts approx. 30 minutes. All are encouraged to attend at least once during Lent.

Spiritual Health Check for Lent. The Diocesan Spirituality Group has produced a leaflet to help people carry out a review of their life from a spiritual perspective. Copies are available in church or contact Robin, 633307.

Donations for Easter Lilies. If you would like to make a donation towards the cost of our Easter lilies please place it in the basket in church. Also, if you can help with decorating the church on Easter Eve please contact June Whitaker, 655320.

The Season of Epiphany. The season of Epiphany continues until NEXT Sunday 31st January when we celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of Christ in the Temple (Candlemas) with a Family Communion Service (including Christingles) at 10.00am.

Children’s Society Collecting Boxes. The collection at the Family Communion Service NEXT Sunday 31st January will be for the Children’s Society. If you have a Children’s Society collecting box at home which needs emptying please bring it on that Sunday or contact Lesley Hudson, 523291.

Kildwick School Collective Worship, 2.45pm NEXT Friday 29th January. All are welcome to join the school community as they gather in church for their collective worship. Refreshments will be served in church from 2.15pm.

Christingle making session, 9.30am NEXT Saturday 30th January. All are welcome to help prepare the Christingles to be used at our Christingle service on Sunday 31st January. Contact Lesley Hudson, 523291, for more details.

Ash Wednesday, 10th February. This is one of the Principal Feasts in the Church calendar. Everyone is encouraged to attend a service on this day. There will be services at 9.30am (in the Parish Rooms) and 7.30pm (at St Peter’s Methodist Church, Cross Hills); both will include the imposition of ashes.

Palm Crosses for Ash Wednesday. The ash used on Ash Wednesday is made from last year’s palm crosses; please bring your cross back to church and place in the basket.

CMS/Jigsaw Kids Ministries Fundraising Coffee Morning, 10.00am – 12 noon Saturday 20th February in the Parish Rooms. Come and help raise funds in support of CMS and Jigsaw Kids Ministries in Manila. Admission free, donations accepted! For more information contact Sue Hargreaves, 633777.

Seminar with Margaret Barker, Saturday 16th April. We are looking forward to welcoming back Margaret Barker, Old Testament Scholar and teacher of what is known as Temple Theology, to Kildwick. Margaret will lead a seminar on Saturday exploring ‘Temple Themes in Christian Worship’ and will also preach at the 10am Parish Communion on Sunday. More details to follow.

Parish Weekend Away 27th – 29th May. We have booked Parcevall Hall, the Diocesan Retreat House near Appletreewick for our weekend away this year. Look out for flyers coming soon.

Review of services during the Advent, Christmas & Epiphany seasons. Feedback is invited from the congregation on the special services held during Advent, Christmas and Epiphany. Please write your comments and give them to Lesley Hudson, Glyn Evans or Robin.

Brass cleaning volunteer needed. We need one volunteer to help with cleaning the church brass. It would only be once every 4 months and takes around an hour. Please contact Lesley Hudson if you are able to help.

Services for Christmas. Thank you very much to everyone who has contributed to our various services as we celebrated Christmas together as a church community: those who cleaned and decorated the church building, the bell ringers, the musicians (organist, choir and music group) and the lay ministers in worship (welcomers, lesson readers, intercessors and communion assistants).

Christmas Services Collections. The collections at the Carol Service, Midnight Eucharist and Christmas Day services will be shared between St George’s Crypt, Leeds, and the Church Mission Society & the Jigsaw Kids Ministries in Manila. The collection at the Crib Service is for The Children’s Society. Details of monies raised will be given soon.

Christmas Stamps. Don’t forget to save your Christmas stamps for charity. They can be left in the box by the church door. Postcards are also collected.

Pilgrim course, ‘The Commandments’, starting NEXT Monday 4th January and Wednesday 6th January. The third module of the Pilgrim course will explore the Commandments and will take place over 6 weeks. Each module stands alone so there is no requirement to have attended previous modules to attend this one.

Travelling Cribs for Advent. We will again be sending two travelling cribs on a journey round the parish from Advent Sunday (29th November) to Christmas Eve. Everyone is invited to host Mary & Joseph for a night; please sign one of the rota lists or contact Robin, 633307.

St Andrew’s Fair, 10.30am – 1.30pm NEXT Saturday 28th November. Please collect items for the various stalls – raffle, tombola, books, toys, bric-a-brac, etc. Items can be left in the church porch during the week or collection can be arranged. Patronal Festival Eucharist with Baptism, Confirmation & Affirmation of Baptismal Vows, 7.30pm Monday 30th November. Bishop Toby, Bishop of Bradford, will be officiating at this service. Christmas Carol Service by Candlelight, 4.00pm Sunday 20th December. Please note the time for this service. Book this special service in your diary and bring your friends and family. Children are invited to come dressed as angels, shepherd, wise men or nativity animals. The service will last one hour and will take place in the church.

New nave altar platform. We are hoping to replace the existing platform with a new solid hardwood platform. Exact details (shape, size, etc) need to be carefully considered; if you would like to be part of a small working group to do this please speak with Robin or Lesley Hudson.

Repair of the church porch roof. The PCC has applied for a faculty for the repair of the porch roof using terne-coated stainless steel. The DAC has recommended the application for approval. The 28-day public consultation period has now ended and the paperwork has been submitted to the Chancellor for consideration.

Pattern of Services – Winter Routine. The Sunday 8.15am Eucharist is now taking place in the Parish Rooms. The Sunday 10am Eucharist, Patronal Festival Eucharist, Advent Carol Service and Christmas Carol Service and other special Christmas services will take place in the church.

 

Dates for your diary in October & November

Reordering of the central area of the church. The reordering is being carried out by Enoch Harrison & Sons Ltd of Cononley. We are now 2 weeks into the work and it is progressing very well; it is expected to finish this week. Services next Sunday will take place in the chancel and we will then return to the nave for our Harvest Festival on Sunday 11th October.

Church clean following the reordering, Monday 5th – Wednesday 7th October. A deep clean of the church will be required following the reordering work. If you can help during the period Monday 5th to Wednesday 7th October please sign the list on the table.

Tea & Scones and Church Open Summer Season. Today is the last Tea & Scones of this year. Thank you very much to everyone who has helped during the last five months offering generous hospitality to all our visitors.

Kildwick School Harvest Collective Worship, 2.45pm Friday 9th October. All are welcome to join the school community as they gather in church for their collective worship. Refreshments will be served in church from 2.15pm.

Harvest Festival, 10.00am Sunday 11th October. We will celebrate harvest this year with a Family Communion at 10.00am. This year the collections at the morning services and the proceeds from the auction of produce will be in support of Water Aid. The non-perishable produce will go to Skipton Food Bank.

Services on Sunday 18th October. Please note that services will be as follows: 8.15am Holy Communion (Order 2)
10.30am CDFC United Service for One World Week (St Andrew’s, Kildwick) NB. There will not be a 10am service here at Kildwick.

Pilgrim course, ‘The Lord’s Prayer’, w/c 2nd November. The second module of the Pilgrim course will explore the Lord’s Prayer and will take place over 6 weeks. Each module stands alone so there is no requirement to have attended the first module to attend this one. Look out for flyers and invitation cards coming soon.

Vicar’s Stall at the St Andrew’s Fair, Saturday 28th November. Robin will be pleased to receive small gifts (guide price £5) from your holiday trip to sell on his stall at this year’s St Andrew’s Fair.

Patronal Festival with Baptism, Confirmation & Affirmation of Faith, 7.30pm Monday 30th November. Bishop Toby, Bishop of Bradford, will be coming to lead this service. If you are interested in being confirmed or affirming your faith please speak with Robin.

Safe Havens for Christians – global petition. Please sign the petition which calls on governments to increase their efforts to support Syrian and Iraqi Christians facing an existential threat to their survival. Collection of non perishable goods for Skipton Food Bank. Please continue to be generous with your support; buy an extra item or two when you go shopping. Items should be placed in the box just inside the church entrance. (Note: tinned items only, please.)

Theft of lead from the church porch roof. During the night of Wednesday 19th August the lead was stripped from the church porch roof. A temporary tarpaulin sheet has been put in place to prevent water getting into the porch. Discussions are taking place with the DAC and our architect about the most appropriate way to repair the damage.
