About Us
The Parish is a picturesque canal side parish set in Airedale about five miles from Skipton, "Gateway to the Dales", and half an hour from Leeds and Bradford. The parish serves the villages of Kildwick, Farnhill, and Cross Hills. It has a population of 3500 and historically St. Andrew's has been the 'mother' church for a much wider area. This is still reflected today in the composition of the church family.
The area includes a mixture of farmland, local industry with new development on a new estate and a 'Commuter' zone. The parish includes one nursing home (Fernbank) and two schools, Kildwick C of E primary, and South Craven Upper. Airedale Hospital and two other schools Glusburn primary and Malsis school (5 to 14) as well as other nursing homes and sheltered housing complexes are located in neighbouring parishes and all the local clergy and ministers share the pastoral work in these.
The Church Family. There are about 175 adult (over 18) members of the church family with 52% residing within the parish boundaries and the other 48% residing in the neighbouring parishes of Glusburn, Cononley, Bradley, Silsden, Steeton and Sutton as well as Utley, Ilkley and Earby. The 'average' Sunday attendance is about 95 attending a variety of services. There is a very friendly atmosphere with clergy and laity working closely together in all the activities within the church family and the links to the wider community. The 'family' includes an honorary curate, two 'retired' canons, a Reader, a Reader in her second year of training, an organist/choirmaster and lay assistance with the chalice, readings and prayers. The choir has 15 members. There is a small music group and a small but enthusiastic team of bell ringers. The Electoral Roll is 112
